Day 2 Unit 5 Bellwork

Rectangle ABCD is similar to rectangle WXYZ with sides in a ratio of 4:1. What is the ratio of the areas of the two rectangles? Suppose the dimensions of each rectangle are tripled. What is the new ratio of the area of the rectangles? What is the effect on the ratio of the area when you increase or decrease both rectangles by the same amount? This post must have a picture of two similar rectangles.

The ratio of two rectangles are 16:1. The rectangle with the sides tripled are still a ratio of 16:1. The ratio's will be different for each sides on the rectangles.

Playful side of geometry??????

"The playful side of arithmetic" is a statement that people my not believe is true. It means that there are things that you can do to make math fun. Rocks may not sound like the funnest thing in the world, but you can use it for fun when you use it in math. Using straws could be one way to make triangles.
Calculus means pebble in Latin.  This has to do with the article because it uses rocks as examples in it.
You can make a pattern that consists of the numbers 1-10 using ten rows like the example below. The example is from an article by Steven Strogatz

What is inductive and deductive.................................

.................. Inductive reasoning is a plausible generation or prediction, and deductive reasoning is a fact, rule, defintion, or properties. I think that everybody should be good at reasoning because in most jobs you would need to us it.
